My Personal Journey Growing Up With Mental Illness

I woke up wanting to share my journey growing up with mental illness in my family and how it affects children when they become adults!

Yes there is a direct correlation with eating sugar to comfort yourself.

For those who this resonates with just know it can be a gift growing up in a family with mental illness.

Being able to think for yourself and to separate who you ARE from who you thought you were growing up is part of your AWAKENING.

The beauty is once you’re awake, you’re awake!

Growing up I had a dad who was manic depressive and diagnosed as bipolar. As a family we appeared relatively normal but what was going on behind closed doors was anything but normal. We were dealing with tons of anxiety, depression and trust issues.

So how did I shield myself growing up and well into my 20's… I ate sugar and lots of it.

And with all that was going on I remember soothing myself with ice cream and rows of Oreos!

Maybe you can relate on some level?

I do believe I will still always be in recovery when I eat sugar…who can seriously stop after eating just one Oreo.. COME ON!

The difference is and this is what the Sugar Freedom Method teaches women to do… I DON’T WANT EAT ROWS OF COOKIES ANYMORE.

  • The struggle is over.
  • The mental indecision has melted into peace.
  • My body is leaner, toner, stronger and healthier as a result.

And the best part, I didn’t have to fight for it.

I just did the work needed to accept my past, follow a certain diet that supports my best self, find an exercise routine that makes me feel strong and limit people who prefer to tear down rather than build up.

I’ve accepted that some people need to go through what they did to become stronger, wiser, better!!

If that’s you please know you’re amazing and that it’s never too late to take control of the sugar addiction you just might have picked up as a kid.
